Avaaz.org CLIMATE ACTION FACTORY – Washington, DC
Creative Youth-Powered Action for our Climate
The UN Climate Summit in Copenhagen, which holds the promise of a strong, fair, and binding global climate treaty, could be among the pivotal events in our lifetimes: a worldwide triumph, or a tragedy of missed opportunity. The mission of the Avaaz DC Climate Action Factory is to maximize the possibility of achieving a strong binding global climate treaty at Copenhagen, and to raise the expectations and demands of the global public that governments must achieve such a treaty.
Ten Action Factory Fellows (activists living and working from the Action Factory through the end of the Copenhagen summit) will unleash their creative energy on this unparalleled political problem by providing them with organizing resources, organizational support, and basic needs in exchange for climate action.
Since June 2009, the Avaaz Action Factories in DC and Berlin have carried out dozens of creative actions in the US and across Europe, directly interacted with scores of decision-makers, and earned hundreds of media hits to propel forward this end.
The Action Factory will direct its focus on three main projects between September and December: 1) urging global leaders to fund a safe-climate pathway at the G20 summit in Pittsburgh; 2) pressuring members of the US Senate to pass legislation that paves the road to a strong deal in Copenhagen; and 3) pressuring President Obama and his Administration to commit to leading the world in Copenhagen.
Fellows
The Avaaz DC Climate Action Factory is seeking TEN Fellows for the countdown to Copenhagen. The duration of the Fellowship will be September 1 – December 21. The Action Factory will be based in Washington, DC, but will include travel domestically and potentially abroad.

Previous Actions and Projects
See www.actionfactories.org to learn more about the actions we have carried out to-date.
The Action Factory program is focused on political advocacy to influence governments in the global climate negotiations through direct pressure and communications. While Fellows are free (and encouraged!) to use their free time for nonpolitical climate projects -- such as building longer-term youth climate movement infrastructure, general awareness-raising, or personal lifestyle changes -- these activities are not the focus of the Fellowship. This program is being created in response to a political emergency of lack of ambition and will to confront the climate crisis in the most-emitting countries.
